GSMA’s New Leadership Takes Center Stage

Vivek Badrinath, the newly appointed director general of GSMA, will deliver his inaugural keynote at M360 Eurasia 2025 in Uzbekistan, as announced in a GSMA press release. The event, scheduled for June 2025, will focus on accelerating digital transformation, 5G deployment, and AI integration across Eurasia. Badrinath, former CEO of Vodafone Business, brings extensive expertise in telecom and digital innovation to his new role.

Eurasia’s Digital Growth Trajectory

According to GSMA’s 2024 Mobile Economy Report, 5G connections in Eurasia are projected to reach 200 million by 2025, up from 120 million in 2023. Uzbekistan’s telecom regulator recently announced a $500 million investment in 5G infrastructure, aiming for nationwide coverage by 2026. The ITU ranks Uzbekistan among the top three Eurasian countries for digital readiness, citing improved broadband access.

Bridging the Digital Divide

GSMA partnered with the World Bank last week to launch a $1 billion fund for digital inclusion projects in emerging markets. Badrinath’s leadership is expected to focus on sustainable digital growth and fostering public-private partnerships to overcome infrastructure gaps in the region.
