DTTM Operations seeks to trademark ‘TRUMP’ in the metaverse, signaling a major push into digital assets and virtual services.

DTTM Operations Expands TRUMP Brand into the Metaverse

DTTM Operations LLC, the company managing former President Donald Trump’s licensing deals, has filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to expand the TRUMP brand into the metaverse. According to the application, the company plans to offer non-fungible tokens (NFTs), blockchain-based services, virtual real estate, and simulation-based training under the TRUMP name.

The filing, first reported by trademark attorney Josh Gerben on Twitter, outlines a broad range of digital services including ‘providing virtual real estate’ and ‘online retail store services featuring virtual goods.’ This move signals a significant expansion of the Trump brand into emerging digital markets.

Details of the Metaverse Plans

The application specifically mentions plans for ‘downloadable virtual goods’ including artwork, texts, audio and video files authenticated by NFTs. It also covers ‘entertainment services’ in virtual environments and ‘providing an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of digital assets.’

According to the USPTO filing, the company is also exploring ‘education and entertainment services’ related to virtual environments, including ‘simulation-based training for entertainment purposes.’ This could potentially include virtual Trump properties or business simulations.

Industry Reaction and Context

The move comes as numerous brands are establishing presences in the metaverse. Major companies like Nike, Gucci, and Walmart have all filed similar trademark applications in recent months. However, political figures entering this space remains relatively uncommon.

Legal experts note that trademark applications don’t necessarily mean immediate product launches, but they do secure rights for future ventures. The USPTO will now examine the application, a process that typically takes 8-10 months.

DTTM Operations hasn’t released an official statement about specific metaverse plans. The company previously launched a series of Trump-themed NFTs in December 2022, which sold out despite mixed reviews.
